Rates are fetched live each time the page loads and the panel shows when they were last updated. If the feed cannot be reached, the badge changes to Indicative rates and a warning appears â the converter will never present stale numbers as live ones.
The rates table is quoted against your own currency, not always the rupee. Set your country from the header and every rate re-quotes: 1 EUR in pounds if you are in London, in dollars if you are in New York, in dirhams if you are in Dubai. Amounts are grouped your way too â âš1,00,000 in South Asia, $100,000 elsewhere.
Majors. USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, CHF, CAD, AUD, NZD and CNY.
South Asia. Indian rupee (INR), Pakistani rupee (PKR), Bangladeshi taka (BDT), Sri Lankan rupee (LKR) and Nepalese rupee (NPR) â the corridors that matter most for remittances home.
Gulf. UAE dirham (AED), Saudi riyal (SAR), Qatari riyal (QAR), Kuwaiti dinar (KWD), Bahraini dinar (BHD) and Omani rial (OMR). The dirham and riyal are pegged to the dollar, so those rates barely move.
Asia-Pacific. SGD, HKD, MYR, IDR, THB, VND, PHP, KRW and TWD.
Africa and the Americas. ZAR, NGN, KES, EGP, GHS, MAD, BRL, MXN, ARS, CLP, COP and PEN.
Why is my bank's rate worse? The mid-market rate sits between what buyers and sellers are quoting. Every intermediary takes a margin on top, which is where their profit on the transaction comes from.
What is the cheapest way to send money abroad? Compare the effective rate â total received divided by total sent â rather than the advertised fee. A zero-fee service with a 3% spread costs more than a service charging a flat fee at a 0.5% spread.
Why do some rates show more decimal places? Because a rate is not an amount. One yen is about âš0.60, so rounding it to the nearest rupee would make it look like âš1 and overstate it by two thirds. Rates keep as many decimals as they need to stay meaningful.
Are these rates good enough for a real transfer? No â they are a sanity check. Get a firm quote from your provider and compare it against the mid-market figure here to see the spread you are being charged.
